Leader Panoz

The “Leader” Panoz That Never Raced

This is the tale of a ghost, a what-if machine that found its purpose not in competition, but in cinema. This is the untold story of the “Leader” Panoz Esperante GTR-1, a prototype that could have become a silver screen legend.

Jean Graton, the legendary creator of the Michel Vaillant comic book series, a universe where racing was imbued with a heroic, almost mythic quality was partnering with his son, Philippe, and the cinematic visionary Luc Besson. Their mission: to translate the ink and adrenaline of the page into a live-action blockbuster. The screenplay demanded more than actors; it required automotive co-stars. The villainous Leader team needed a car that was menacing, futuristic, and utterly believable.

The Panoz Esperante GTR-1 program from the French squad DAMS becomes a racer without a race, a story without an ending. It sat, a silent testament to what might have been, its potential seemingly locked away forever.
